Bio

New Delhi-based Sondeep Shankar is a photojournalist with over four decades of experience. He has led photo coverages at leading publications across India, including the Times of India, India Today, Hindustan Times and the Asian Age and Deccan Chronicle Group. Sondeep has been a frequent India contributor to Time, Der Spiegel and Stern magazines.  

Exhibitions:  

  • In 1986, Sondeep held a one-man show at the Sridharani Gallery, New Delhi. The show was also displayed at Jahangir Art Gallery in Bombay in 1987.  

  • In 1998, photographs from Sondeep’s coffee-table book Havelis of Old Delhi were exhibited at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. 

  • In 2010, the show ‘Buddhism in India’ was acquired by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. The show is currently being exhibited in Asia.  

  • In 2011, the exhibition ‘Sikhs: A Heritage of Valour and Devotion’ was acquired by ICCR. It has been on display in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Singapore and is currently on display in several cities in the US.  

Sondeep has represented working journalists to the Press Council of India, an autonomous body constituted for safeguarding freedom of the press in India.
